What is Powder Coating?
Straight Wheels powder coats wheels and rims. At Straight Wheels powder coating is an essential part of the wheel repair and rim repair process. If you’re looking for gloss black wheels, matte / flat black, or semi black Straight Wheels can do it all. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. Once the wheel is structurally repaired, stripped, and cleaned the powder coating is applied electrostatically and cured in our ovens. When cured properly the wheel comes out dry and ready to go.
Powder is preferred to liquid as it is more durable than conventional paint while still providing an attractive finish. Powder coating is a found on many of products you come in contact with each day. Powder coated wheels are more resistant to the affects of chemicals, moisture, and the sun. This reduces the risk of fading, chipping, scratches, corrosion, fading, and other wear issues.
Why use Straight Wheels over another 3rd party powder coater? It’s simple really, Straight Wheels specializes in powder coating wheels and knows what works! What type of powder to use, how much powder to apply, how to properly prep the wheel, how long to cure each wheel, what powders negatively react with paints are just a few of the important details to consider when getting your wheels done. Many times a wheel is structurally damaged even to the point of being non repairable and you might not know. A 3rd party powder coater does not have the expertise to determine the structural integrity or fix your wheel. Why spend the time and money powder coating a wheel that is damaged?
Colors – like paint, powder comes in a variety of colors. At Straight Wheels we stock only 4 basic colors, powder clear, gloss black, semi gloss black, and matte or flat black.
